Sophisticated Hound is Princeton’s microbrewery and taproom. Owner and operator Matt Barnett has a Bachelor’s degree from Concord and a Master’s degree in Business from WVU, but his love for home brewing drew him to open his own craft brewery. He was drawn to the Princeton Grassroots District because he felt that the community needed a space to gather. Sophisticated Hound isn’t just a taproom; it’s a place for live music, a good meal, and a unique brew.
Sophisticated Hound has over 20 types of beer they brew in their taproom, and it can be a community effort. The American Wheat they brew is called Bumble Blossom and uses honey from Blue Ridge Bee Company right across the street. Matt says the West Virginia craft beer community is growing and is very supportive of each other.
Sophisticated Hound is named for Matt’s adopted greyhound, who is a retired racing dog. Listen to this episode for a crash course in beer making, then swing by the taproom for a cold pint!
